Ahead of the Paris Motor Show (October 1–16), Mercedes unveiled its new E-Class All Terrain. The luxury off-road model reaches the market in spring 2017 and will compete with the Audi A6 Allroad and the Volvo V90 Cross Country.
The newest member of the recently introduced sixth-generation E-Class comes standard with Air Body Control air suspension and the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
The air suspension provides an additional 35 mm of ground clearance. At speeds of up to 35 km/h, the driver can raise the standard 121 mm clearance to 141 mm or 156 mm at the touch of a button.
The specially tuned 4Matic setup, combined with 19-inch wheels, delivers improved grip and comfort even on uneven roads.
Dynamic Select is part of the standard equipment and offers five driving modes, one of which — All Terrain — is exclusive to this model. In this mode, ride height is set to the medium level (141 mm), while the ESP (Electronic Stability Program), AYC (Active Yaw Control) and ASC (Acceleration Skid Control) systems switch into readiness for the most demanding terrain.
As with the GLE, the infotainment system displays the steering angle, suspension level, tilt angle, as well as the position of the accelerator and brake pedals.
Initially, the model will only be offered with a two-litre turbo diesel engine producing 194 hp. A 3-litre inline six-cylinder diesel will follow in late 2017.
The transmission is the 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic.
All versions accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 8.0 seconds, with a top speed of 230 km/h. Average fuel consumption is 5.1 l/100 km, with CO₂ emissions of 137 g/km.
