Error Code 02645 Level Control System Valve
This mechanical fault is related to the vehicle’s automatic ride-height control system (adaptive air suspension).
The system includes the compressor (Airmatic), a level-control pressure sensor (G291 air suspension distributor), a height sensor, and a ride-height control module (J197 air suspension computer).
When the ride-height control module detects a fault in the level-control pressure sensor (G291), the fault code recorded is 02645: Level Control System Valve: Mechanical Fault in the control module.
The air suspension computer is used in the ride-height control system to monitor the height at each wheel via the height-level sensor and send those signals to the pressure sensor. The level-control pressure sensor is connected directly to the air compressor. The sensor uses these signals from the control module and sends the required amount of air to each individual air spring.
A fault in the level-control pressure sensor will slow down the vehicle’s upward and downward movement. For a period of time, the fault can prevent the vehicle from raising or lowering at all. In most cases, when error code 02645 Level Control System Valve: Mechanical Fault is stored, it points to a fault in the G291 sensor — i.e., the distributor — but in some cases a faulty air compressor can also be the cause of this error.
Causes:
- Faulty level-control pressure sensor (G291).
- Air compressor failure.
- Loss of communication between (G291) and (J197).
- Faulty ride-height control module.
- Air leak in the ride-height control system (the distributor).
Symptoms:
- The air suspension warning light will start flashing on the dashboard.
- Vehicle ride height may be too low or too high, and sometimes one side high, the other side low.
- A fault code is stored in the control module.
